Maidenhair Tree
Ginkgo biloba is a gymnosperm, the only surviving species of the Ginkgoaceae family and the Ginkgoales order. With an age of 250 million years, it is considered a living fossil, thanks to its longevity and resistance to drought, cold, and pollution. Symbol of Tokyo, this tree produces fleshy seeds rather than true fruits. Originally from China, it is also known as ginko or maidenhair tree, with its name derived from a mis-transcription of a Japanese and Chinese term. The name "biloba" refers to the shape of its leaves, divided into two lobes.
