Go and try the superb wines or the well-known Valle di Muggio cheese yourself! Mendrisio becomes a hot spot in those days! Lots of entertainment, music, degustation, and a colourful market await you. A weekend in mid September | "La Sagra del Castello" - The Village Fair of Castello, Valsolda
The town "Castello" (castle, fortress) resembles an aerie. The houses are circularly arranged and sit enthroned on a mountain top above the Italian northern salient of the Lago di Lugano. "La Sagra del Castello" is a medival festival that has its centre point in its winding alleys and the Piazzetta Ruscett. The inhabitants open their cellars and let you enjoy wine, goat cheese, and slices of bread, simply soaked in olive oil. You can buy produce of local manufacturers at the many market stalls. The whole village is full of music. There are spectacles, performances and medival dances. On this weekend, you can only reach Castello by public, free of charge transfer. You should take part in this festival at least once! |
