Gauguin – Tales from Heaven

07.11.2015

The Museum of Cultures of Milan hosts the exhibition of Gauguin – Tales from Heaven from 28.10.2015 al 21.02.2016.

The Mudec exhibition reconstructs the artist’s career throughout 70 works, originating from different museums and private international collections, comparing them with artifacts and documentative images from the places that were visited by the French artist during his world tour.

The exhibition can count on some outstanding loans, for the first time in Italy:

Self-Portrait with Yellow Christ from the “Musée d'Orsay” in Paris, which testifies to the fascination of Paul Gauguin for the "primitive" art and “Mahana No Atua” (Day of God)from the Art Institute of Chicago, which was painted in Paris in the interval between the stays of Gauguin in Tahiti, shows that the influence of images and memories of a primordial and more authentic world was an essential element of his production.

To these are added the 10 zincographs from “Volpini Suite”, one of the most obvious manifestations of the artistic greatness of Gauguin. It's through the comparison of some masterpieces of the artist and his sources of inspiration that the exhibition aims to demonstrate his unique and original approach to the "primitivism".
